Phillip Watters - Solicitor
Phil is a well known solicitor in Llandudno and has practicised law in the county of Conwy for over 20 years. He has spent the last 10 years as a full equity partner in local firm J W Hughes & Co having trained with Gamlins when he first moved to North Wales.
"Irish Phil", as he is known by clients, decided to set up PJW Law to offer something different to the traditional law Practice.
Phil is committed to providing a community based law firm and the firm supports the community via free legal clinics (due to the almost complete removal of legal aid), free initial appointments, fixed fees and financial support of local charities. PJW Law deliver legal services via the use of cutting edge technology to include a voice over internet telephone system, direct voice dictation and will be first solicitors in the area to offer online Wills and Powers Of Attorney.
Phil recognises that the world has changed and the way lawyers have practicised law needs to change also. Sadly traditional law firms struggle to adapt to change or are very slow to do so. Phil is attuned to the changing needs of consumers of legal services and set up PJW Law to offer an alternative. At the heart of that is fixed fees.
Phil firmly believes no client should be required to engage a solicitor with no idea as to the final cost which is still the case with the vast majority of traditional solicitors firms who often quote an hourly rate of £200 to £250 per hour and when pushed on what the final bill will be they often reply "how long is a piece of string". PJW Law and indeed the vast majority of consumers would not engage a plumber to fit a new boiler on the basis of the plumber indicating he charged "£100 per hour" but giving no quote or fixed price for getting the job done. However traditional solicitors firms still operate on this basis without giving a quote and sticking to it.
Phil is an expert in litigation of all types but has a specialism in personal injury and medical negligence having spent the vast majority of his legal life practising these areas of law. Phil has also substantial experience of Wills and Probate, Lasting Powers of Attorney, Compliance, along with residential and commercial conveyancing to name but a few.
Phil has had some notable successes (including setting precedent in the Court of Appeal twice) and loves the cut and thrust of litigation.
In his spare time Phil is an avid supporter of Liverpool Football Club, a reasonable golfer at North Wales Golf Club (were he is also the club solicitor),a director of Llandudno Football Club and Club solicitor to Penmaenmawr Phoenix Football Club and whilst he loves skiing and travel he is not that keen on gardening. Phil likes to socialise and have the odd meal in a restaurant and is often seen out and about in Llandudno and Conwy.
Phil undertakes and supervisors all aspects of residential and commercial conveyancing. Phil and Charlotte recently secured the Conveyancing Quality Scheme trademark issues by the Law Society.
Phil primary work involves handling claims on behalf of those seriously or catastrophically injured as a result of accidents (home and abroad) and as a result of Clinical Negligence. Phil has secured settlements running into the million of pounds and in the last two months has settles two claims at over £500,000 and six claims at over £150,000.
Phil is an Accredited Member of the Solicitors Regulation Authority's Personal Injury Panel and a long standing Member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers. Phil is also rated in the top 175 Solicitors in the United Kingdom by Vouchedfor.co.uk - please see www.vouchedfor.co.uk/solicitor/llandudno/22963-phillip_watters).
Phil also offers 25 years of expertise dealing with a range of other legal matters which includes Employment Law, Debt Recovery, Flight Delay Claims, Compliance and Regulatory Law, Small Business Advice to name but a few. As one satisfied client put it:
"I have never encountered anyone who works harder or fights your corner like Phil. He knows his stuff but he takes all the stress out of it by insisting that you let him do the worrying for you. He is "Jekyll and Hyde" (I mean that as a compliment!) because you will not meet a nicer guy but i wouldn't want to be the person on the other side in a litigation dispute - he is lethal and the best letter writer i have ever seen. I wouldn't see anyone else for my legal matters and I recommend him to everyone that I know. Top bloke, easy to deal with, gets on with it and really cares. Great Solicitor!"
