Cycling Accidents

Bicycles are an eco-friendly way to travel, it saves on fuel costs and keeps you fit, plus you don’t have to worry about finding a parking space! However this means sadly the numbers of bicycle accidents are rising.

As a driver we tend to use our two main senses to stay extra vigilant - sight and sound. Bikes are lot smaller than cars and are not as easily seen on the road, they tend to be hidden behind cars, vehicles or buses, especially when stationary or at a junction. Furthermore, bicycles don’t have an engine like a car or motorcycle, meaning it’s difficult for drivers to hear them coming.

Unfortunately, even a careful cyclist who adheres to cycle safety guidelines, and who wears all the right reflective clothing, still cannot predict the actions of other vehicles on the road – you have very little body protection and an accident could have long reaching consequences. Cyclists are also exposed to all the elements and have the dangers of diesel spills and potholes to contend with.

What types of compensation can I claim for?

Cycle incidents could require hospital treatment, a lengthy recovery period, substantial periods off work, and may even have a permanent effect in your earning potential. For you and those around you, this can be an extremely difficult time.

Together we can help you claim:

  • Compensation for your injury

  • Awards for damages for your bike and/or equipment

  • Rehabilitation and private medical treatment

  • Loss of earnings for recovery time

  • Potential loss of earnings if your injury has left you with a disability that prevents you from working your current job.

Our aim is to try and return you to as normal a life as possible, as soon as possible.

Example Cases

Defective Ladder

Phil has been involved in a number of high profile cycling accident cases and is a specialist in accidents involving cyclists and potholes. Indeed Phil is currently trying to set a legal precedent in the Court Of Appeal involving a gentleman thrown from his bike sustaining serious injury when he hit a pothole on a country road. The trial judge felt that due to the character of the road the pothole was not dangerous. Phil is appealing the judgement on the basis that the judge misapplied the test of dangerousness. Phil argues a pothole in the highway is either dangerous or not. The fact that it was on a country road should make no difference to the issue of whether the defect was dangerous.
